How much food should I give my yorkie?

I have a 3 month old yorkie, the vet said I should give him food 3 times a day and always keep some food in the bowl for the puppy, but my puppy doesn't want to eat too much. He eats all day a little bit and his large meals don't get larger than 1/4 of a cup of Eukanuba. Is it normal? He is only 4 pounds. Thanks!|||enough food to prevent it from starving and being hungry|||Defiantly! My friend has a Yorkie, and she keeps food out for him all day,But once he eats it hes full for about a day or two.Dint worry, they have small stomachs and can only eat a little everyday.|||OK....so you decided to dive into the realm of Yorkie-Dom! Well a Yorkie is of the FINICKIEST of dogs! Literally my girl will go on hunger strike sometimes. Here are a few pointers...at that age its really best to give 3 meals a day, if the dog is not a very hearty eater you should free feed (i.e. leave the food out). My girl is 4 lbs also and I leave 1/4 cup out all day. That's completely normal! The most important thing to consider is that at that age the can not regulate their blood sugar appropriately and so have food available prevents blood sugar crashes. Sounds like your little guy is a typical Yorkie...their a bit high strung but the best pups in the world!
