Why is food and beer consumption such a big part of sporting events?





When you go to a sporting event everywhere you look there is food, beer and soda. People eat a great deal during sporting events and it is hard to imagine going to a game without food. One wonders it anyone would go these games if food and beer were not available. Why is this? Why do you think eating and drinking is such a big part of the appeal of pro sports games? Why is it that people are willing to pay such huge amounts of money for this food? Why is it that food offering is such a big part of the stadium/arena experience? Is it the tradition? The fact that eating is pleasurable and thus makes an event more fun? What do you think? I am hoping to get some well though answers as this is for a school project so none of this because people like it鈥?|||when the red sox and yankees are playing and arod is at bat you NEED the beer...|||It all started many, many years ago at the first soccer game (futbol, whatever). Two guys were sitting in the stands talking to each other and one said, "Geez, this is sure boring. I could go for a beer and a hot dog." The other guy replied, "Brilliant!" and sports concessions were born.|||Maybe cause sports create alot of tension and anticipation.


The real excitement comes in peaks. You never know when its gonna happen. Similar to a movie and people shoveling popcorn in their mouth ( although most movies are methodical and you can pretty much count on the climax being halfway through the movie).


Popcorn (food) feeds your anxiety.


You need some way to get that nervous energy out.


So you eat, drink and scream your head off.|||HUNGER %26amp; THIRST are the most likely culprits that and the fact that just about everyone else is doing it too.|||i think it's part of a more pleasurable thing....good food good beer and a good game of footbal baseball soccer or any sport it's just very enjoyable especially for us guys|||its bcoz ppl love to hav food while entertaining themselfs . food n beer makes them energetic n if u keep watching the play without having food or beer u will be bored . its like boosting themself to shout n scream while they shoot a shot or put a goal. they will shout n again hav sum beer n other stuffs. ppl enjoy the show eating . u can see ppl always roaming with hot dogs or ham burgers in one hand n coke or pepsi or beer in other hand. ppl always love eating while they r at an event.|||I often wonder about this too. We are in an age that is glamorizing food. Food programmes on TV, food now has star quality, just like a top actor. We are inundated with adverts wherever we look, in mags, newspaper....at the end of the day it's all about money, sell food and someone rakes in money. Similar to sports, it all about the money|||DONT TALK ABOUT IT DO IT ALREADY|||Do you even have to ask? especially in a baseball game, you need beer to get you by 9 long innings,|||What? You actually watch the game,and dont drink?|||This is in American culture only, we have made food a part of every social event there is. Its a huge reason why this country has the most over weight population in the world.





Other cultures do drink as much if not more then Americans do but the eating is far less.|||Because without beer, sport is boring. Give them a ball each!|||you sit there for three hours with screaming kids begging there parents for ice cream and food every five minutes and tell me u wouldnt wanna slam a few brewskis?? all i gotta say is EAT DRINK AND BE FAT AND DRUNK!!!|||especially in baseball and hockey the crowd gets so bored they need something to keep them occupied|||in the old days the only way to see a game was saddle up and go to the game. Sporting events lasted longer then they do now and were held in the middle of the day when people tend to eat and drink. Over time this has become a tradition/habit that has carried over to today. Its not unlike hiding Easter Eggs at Easter or having a traditional dinner on holidays. It has been bred in us through generations of learned behavior.|||Its Just For Fun And Relaxation. People Get Hungry And Thirsty. The People In Sporting Events Have High Prices For That Reason And People Are Willing To Pay For. Another Reason Is They Are There Like Sporting Events And Just Enjoy It.|||Because that is how the stadium owner makes money to pay the team and other expenses.|||people drink beer during sports cause they need an excuse to act like total infanitle a**holes. right?|||If I remember correctly, income from concessions and parking is not covered under the Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Player's Association.





When you hear about how much a team is worth, you're usually hearing about their revenues from ticket sales, broadcast agreements and merchandise sales (team jerseys, caps, etc.) I think parking and food sales are the last place owners can "hide" income from the players.|||If you need to ask.......|||The games suck if u r not stuffed full of food and drunk!|||Because you are away from the wife and you can do whatever you want for those couple hours!
